“I was like, ‘I’m ready to go.’
I knew that if I kept my focus on my performance, that I could do it,” he says.
“I’m a big fan of doing that on television, I think it’s so powerful and exciting.
And the challenge of being the voice of a network show is to go in and do that and I think that’s what we’re doing here.
I’m definitely nervous about it.”
Maui is not the only new cast member joining the show.
Two others joined the series last season and are returning: singer and songwriter Laura Jansen, who starred in the first season of “Modern Family” and now is the co-host of the popular podcast “Maulettes” (www.maulettings.com), and former “Survivor” contestant and contestant of “America’s Got Talent” Michele Fitzgerald, who appeared on the season one finale.
The season five finale was “pretty intense,” says Koechlin, who has worked on several other “The Amazing Race” seasons.
“We had a lot of challenges.
We had a few things that went wrong.
But we did our best.
We did our hardest.”
The cast members are all very familiar with the show and the people that they’re working with.
“They know the cast,” Koechoi says.
For instance, they’ve been on the show for a couple of years now, and have a long-standing friendship with the cast.
“The best thing about being on ‘The Voice’ is that it is a big part of their lives, so that helps a lot.”
The challenge for the cast members is to maintain the intensity throughout the season.
“There are times when it’s tough and you can’t go back to where you were, but you can have fun with it,” Koeschlin says.
In addition, the contestants also have to find new ways to bring back the energy.
“That’s the fun part of this job,” he adds.
“We’re all in this together.
We’ve got to find ways to stay together,” says Fitz.
“It’s very collaborative and it’s very, very important that you find new things to do.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked to sing, ‘It’s just like this’ and I’m like, [starts singing] ‘No way!
What would that sound like?
‘No, it’s just this.'”
Maua, on the other hand, is still figuring out what he wants to be when he’s not on the radio.
“At this point I’m just trying to figure out what my career path is,” he said.
“What I want to do is play music, I want a house, I don’t know.
I don ‘t know what that means.”
The only certainty is that he’ll be singing a lot.
