A year of drama, comedy, action and romance wrapped up in a bang, with season 5 of InSecure finally on DVD and Blu-ray today.
We had a chance to chat with showrunner David Simon about what’s next for the series, the characters we’ve met and the upcoming season.
Can you tell us what the story is all about?
David Simon: It’s a story of three men and their two dogs, and how they became the people they are.
It’s about family, loyalty and family bonds, which is really important for our show, and also about the showrunners job of making sure that everything is grounded.
We are the showrunner, so we’re responsible for the story, and we do it with our team of writers.
We wanted to take the opportunity to tell this story about the men in our lives and their relationships with each other.
The people who have a great deal of influence on their lives, and who are not necessarily the smartest guys in the room, but they’re also men who have to work together to do that.
They’re going to do things that we’re not prepared for, and that’s where the tension comes in.
Can they survive and can they survive in their world?
Is it all going to be alright?
We’ll find out in the first season.
And we also have a new episode coming up next week, where we’re going back to the first episode of season 5.
It has a big twist, and a new character that is going to change everything, and it’s going to really be the season where we really try to make sure that we do not repeat ourselves.
We are a very ambitious show.
There’s a lot of work to do.
We’re looking forward to the next season, and to making sure we’re as good as we can be.
It feels like there’s always more that we want to do and more that needs to be done.
What kind of scenes are you most looking forward, and why?
David Samuels: We love all the little details.
You can’t go in there and see everything, but there are a few that are really good that we’ve got a shot at.
We like a lot.
We really like the new episode, which has a new dog that is quite new.
That is a really interesting thing that we really wanted to do, and is going in, and will definitely be fun to watch.
But also, the dog is very special.
We got a lot going on there.
There are also some good moments in the second episode that we’ll look forward to, as well.
What’s the biggest change that you’ve made to the story?
David: It was a bit of a balancing act.
In terms of story, we always wanted to have something that we could look back at and say, “Yeah, that’s why we did it”.
But also there was a huge amount of stuff that we were thinking about, and some of the big plot lines, but also some really big things that were coming up in the season, so it was a lot to balance and to think about.
But the biggest thing is that the writers, the cast and crew all really loved this story.
It was very much an experiment.
We just felt it was going to happen, and the story was going all the way through.
But as the season progressed, we realised that we wanted to change it a little bit, to give us a little more of a chance.
We have a lot coming up that are going to have to be explored and we have a very big story that we need to finish.
It’s been a lot fun to work on this show, but the real thrill is that we have the time of our lives.
It does feel like we are working on a show that is really rewarding and very fulfilling.
But we’ve done a lot on this season and we’ve really been trying to work as a team.
We’ve got to make it as exciting and entertaining as we possibly can.
We know we have to keep moving, and keep writing, and continue to tell the story that everyone loves.
We don’t want to end on a cliffhanger, but we really do want to be able to say goodbye and let the characters know that we loved them.
I think that’s what is most rewarding about the job.
We love writing, but if we can do it on a day-to-day basis, then it’s all worth it.
We also had a really nice group of people.
David is really the show’s producer, and I think the other guys in his crew are really like brothers.
I love working with them and I love being able to work with them on a regular basis.
We all really do care about each other, and really enjoy the experience.
What have you got planned for season 5?
David is looking forward a lot, and you’ll see that in the new episodes
